According to the Georgia Department of Highway Safety, over 8,300 tickets in violation of Georgia’s Hands Free Law have been issued from July through December of 2018. The director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety attributes the decrease in traffic fatalities for the last 6 months of 2018 in part to the new law and its enforcement on Georgia’s highways and byways. The law prohibits drivers from using their phones while driving and due to the enforcement by local and state police Georgia drivers are apparently catching on to the importance of staying focused on the road rather than a mobile device.
